Questions, answered simply.
Waypoint Diary is made to feel calm. These answers explain how the app handles memories, location, storage, and sharing.
What is Waypoint Diary?
Waypoint Diary is a private, location-aware diary. You can save written memories, photos, voice notes, and places, then revisit them through a map, timeline, collections, and recorded trips.
Do I need an account?
No. You can use device-only mode without creating an account. In that mode, your diary remains on that device and no private-sync service is needed. An account is only needed if you choose optional cross-device sync.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. Memories you create on your device remain available offline. Where enabled, you can also download a map area for offline map use. Some features, such as optional sync or publishing a share link, need an internet connection.
When does the app use my location?
Waypoint Diary requests location access only when you use a location-based feature, such as centering the map, saving your current place, or recording a trip. You can also drop a memory at a chosen place or add one for a past date.
Are my photos and voice memos private?
In device-only mode, captured media stays on your device. If you opt into private sync and connect supported storage, app-created media may be copied there to support your chosen sync setup. You decide whether to enable that option.
Can I share a trip or collection?
Sharing is optional and available only after you enable cross-device sync. A share link is created deliberately by you. You can revoke a link, and public viewers receive only the limited, immutable projection you chose to share.
Can I export my diary?
Yes. The app includes an export option so you can keep a portable copy of your diary data. Exports are intended for your own backup, archive, or later import—not as an automatic public share.
What is Fog of War?
Fog of War is an optional visual layer for the map. It can reveal the places you have explored through recorded journeys and saved locations. It is a personal view of your own movement, not a public map of your activity.
How can I delete my information?
You can delete individual memories, media, collections, and trips in the app. If you use a synced account, account deletion removes the associated server-side diary data and signs out active sessions, subject to a minimal non-sensitive deletion receipt retained for operational accountability.
